Picking on the good stuff

Hello everyone! Finally an update, haha! I hope most of you are enjoying your Chinese New Year (well if you celebrate)!

Okay, before I get on with today's post. I tried a pretty healthy snack:) Baked potato chips! Super easy and yummy especially if you like potato hehe. The pictures are my second attempt because the first tim I burnt quite a few :b So, take a few potatoes, depending on how much you wanna serve. Two medium sized potatoes will give you about a bowl or less. First, slice the potatoes then poke some holes in 'em . You want to make sure the thickness of each slice is about the same if not some will be cooked and some will be raw still. Throw your slices of potatoes into a bowl. Drizzle enough olive oil to coat each slice, sprinkle some salt and black pepper to taste! Lay them in the oven and let em bake until they turn golden-ish, brownish :) Serve with whatever sauce/dip you want. It goes really well with guacamole. My oven gets hot really fast so it takes about 20mins for them to cook. Overall my family really enjoyed it! hehe

Ta-da!

So this Chinese New Year, my family didn't go anywhere for the holidays like we usually do which means I'm at home most of the time entertaining whoever that comes visit us. During all this visiting, I witnessed a scenario and boom, inspired to blog about it:b

I'm not going to leak out the names of whoever is involved in this scenario FYI. So here was how it went:
Holly visited Mr Roderick's house during Chinese New Year because Mr Roderick's grandson, Carson, invited him. So from here you would know Mr Roderick doesn't know Holly until she stepped into the house. Mr Roderick entertains his own guests while Carson entertained Holly and her friends. So blah blah blah, they drink, gamble and soon it's time for Holly to go home. Out of respect, Holly goes to Mr Roderick and tells him, "Thank you sir, I'm leaving". It's the Chinese way you know to just be polite and tell people you're leaving and all. One more thing before I tell you what Mr Roderick responded, Holly's voice is very sharp and high-pitched (which is the exact opposite of mine). Instead of Mr Roderick thinking or saying, "Oh what a polite girl, okay, goodbye" kinda thing, he said "Wah, your voice is so sharp." For all you know, it maybe hurtful for Holly.

I got kinda defensive for Holly, maybe because I'm also insecure about my voice so I know how she would feel when people talk about her voice that way as well. But then again, why can't Mr Roderick look at her and think that she's a polite girl instead of "Jeez, what a sharp voice."

I think a lot of us out there tend to do this. Instead of seeing the good in others, we always pick out their "flaws" or not so good things and say something about it  But on the other hand, we want so badly for others to see the good in us as well. It doesn't make sense, does it? Again, things like that is a cycle. You want people to see the good side of you, you should see the good in others as well. As the saying goes, "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all" right? If in your head, you wanna mention a sensitive issue, you're thinking "Should I mention it or nah because they might get hurt?" Thats when you know you shouldn't mention it. Why take the risk of hurting them? Just keep it to yourself yes?

Basically, I think we should all fight hard to start seeing the good in people first. Yes, sometimes it's very hard I know, especially the people you do not like. If you really have nothing good to point out, just keep quiet and ignore them, Hahah. But yeah, always try to see the good side in others. We humans are all damn screwed up, I think we should really try to make it a better place so we all can live with less assholes in this world :b amen! I always try my hardest to do kind to people especially strangers because when someone does good to you, there is a chance of them paying that kindness forward. If more and more people pass on this kindness, we can live more peacefully and this world WILL be a better and SAFER (the caps lock to emphasise on our world's current state of security) You don't lose anything to be kind and say nice things right? Give it a try, it makes you feel a whole lot better too :)

Have a nice day everyone! Thank you again for reading my blog, it means a lot to me. Take care :)

Love Rachel*
