So, maybe through this post you will be able to know more about me personally and also a much more personal perspective of Cyrens, my ex high school cheerleading team.
Hmm, I honestly don't know where to start... Alright, here it goes.
Cyrens has won Cheer 5 years in a row (2010-2014) and I joined Cyrens in 2011, so I've only won with my team 4 times. Let me tell you, initially, I had no interest in cheerleading at all but that's another story of how it all began which I will tell when I'm not lazy and if people are actually interested. Before I continue, for those who don't know my school or Cyrens, we're just a high school team not a hardcore All-Star team who trains 7 times a week haha.
Cyrens train 4 times a week, 2 and a half hours each practice. We have one practice for tumblings (meaning the flips and all). Over the years, girls in Cyrens would range from age 13-17. In the beginning when I was still a junior, I was pretty afraid of the seniors, I mean we're suppose to respect your seniors.
I think after 2012, I told myself I was going to quit because one thing about cheer is that, you need to commit 200%. Cheer took up so much of my time, I also went home late, was late for ballet and in the end, I had to quit drumming and ballet classes if not I wouldn't have time for cheer. Why didn't I quit cheer instead right? Well, it was really hard once you've been sucked into that "cheer life". You have super memorable moments with your teammates and that bond that brings you so close together as a team and also, I became co-captain for Cyrens 2013 (which was another way of saying "haha, you're stuck with cheer now) How the hell was I going to quit now right? lol. And so I told myself to endure those time-consuming practices, crazy scoldings and pressuring cheer events we had to go through. Don't get me wrong, it was another fun-filled year definitely :) Senior year then came, my last year to join cheer and I stayed, definitely. It was my final year and no doubt I wanted to enjoy my last cheer year before I left school. I also became the captain of Cyrens 2014 with no regrets :)
Every cheer year, you'll have new members for sure because our seniors graduate and we have to take over their places. The cycle goes on and on. When it was my turn to be a senior, I treated my juniors like how my seniors treated me. You take them as your own family, you get to know each teammate personally. In my opinion, I think creating a bond in team sports is very important. It gives you chemistry with everyone, making it easier to work with them as a team. What really kept me in cheer were my teammates. I knew that there was no where else I could form the same bond again and meet crazy ass people like them again. I stayed because of them, if not I was ready to give up my cheer life. Everyone in the team real opened up to each other, and it just made you feel like you're important and that you are a part of a family:) Everyone's always having each other back, we watch over each other like sisters. It just made me feel like I belong somewhere you know. The feeling is really hard to describe, you just gotta be in it and feel it to really know what I'm talking about:) Now most of you would know why it was really hard for me to let go of them and why I was so attached to my team for awhile after senior year.
Also, let me point out something that I also had to endure during my cheer life: Cheer hate. Yep. We won year after year and there were many people out there who didn't like us. They came up with stories like this which was completely absurd. "Cyrens bribed the judges" "Sure under table one" And I just got super mad. We work our asses off ok. So don't simply assume things if you have no legit evidence. Whenever we won, there was hate. "No they don't deserve to win" and what if we don't win one of the years? *touch wood* People will still have something to say right? "They lost because they suck this year" and blah blah. Look guys, we don't control the other teams that compete. What every team does is to just go out there and try to hit a perfect routine. That's basically what every other team out there does, we just want a perfect routine. The win is just a plus. If you do a team sport, it's the same thing. Yes, Cyrens receive a lot of support from our school which we are super grateful for no doubt. Our school puts a lot of effort into our team, we are very fortunate and they are also the reason why we work hard and try to make our school proud, end of story:)
Right now, I've passed that post cheer depression stage. haha. There's a new Cyrens coming up and I know that they will be even stronger this year. I've moved on. I miss cheering of course but that was my high school life. I've graduated and I just wanna go out there and try new things. If I further my studies, who knows, maybe I might just join cheer again for the heck of it. haha. Anyway, I don't know what kind of response I'll get from this post but I hope it'll be positive. If any of you have any questions about Cyrens, just feel free to ask me :) But again, I do not welcome hate.
Thanks for reading this guys and also thank you "N" for giving me the chance to blog about this. It really brought back a lot of happy memories I had with the team:) Cheer has been a huge part of my life and it really did shape me into who I am today. *cringes* because geli :b
Love Rachel*
